Figueres is a small town near the French-Spanish border known most prominently as the hometown of famous surrealist artist Salvadore Dali.  Not surprisingly, Figueres is home to the largest Dali museum in the world – an absolutely fantastic view into the man’s insane mind.  Even the building is an homage to the Dali style of bizarre meets extreme.

Figueres has enjoyed its rise to popularity thanks to Dali, but is not devoid of other charms.  The beautiful square next to the museum is filled with tables from small cafes nearby and a stroll down any number of the twisting and turning cobblestone roads is likely to bring you to somewhere interesting.

But we were here for one reason, which was the Dali museum.  This photo of Mike is taken amongst the more traditional paintings, this type of “plain” canvas work is certainly not typical.

It is worth saying, if you want decent pictures inside – get there early.  The museum is absolutely mobbed with tour groups who begin arriving at opening – if you arrive 15-20 minutes early, you can be first in line, and this is worthwhile.  We managed to convince them to let us in a few moments before everybody else which made all the difference – all the pictures I have included below would simply not be possible were it not for being the first people allowed in.
